Food is fuel. I like to keep it simple with nutrition, as you all know. Eating the right foods and enough of them during the day will ensure that your workouts go as desired without feeling sluggish and weak. It is amazing to me that sometimes people use the excuse of "I forgot to eat". Excuse me, you forgot to eat!? How do you forget to eat?? Think of yourself as a top end sports car. You would not put low end fuel (sugars, unhealthy fats, and high glycemic carbs), or no fuel at all for that matter, into it and expect to perform at your greatest potential, would you? But if you put top of the line fuel (fruits, veggies, lean meats, nuts/seeds, healthy fats/oils), you can and will perform at your greatest potential. Eating nothing at all is even worse. You cannot "run" on empty.
As far as water intake goes, it is imperative to drink water throughout the day. Hydration is another key element to working at your fullest potential. Dehydration also can make you feel sluggish and weak, but worst of all, you will feel dizzy, you may get a headache, and your joints/muscles may ache. I don't like to tell people how much water to drink during the day, because it varies depending on the individual. What I do tell people is that you need drink water during the day to make sure you are properly hydrated for your workouts. For those of you who work out in the morning, drink 20oz of water 45 minutes before working out and another 8-10oz 15 minutes before you workout. That rule of thumb can go for the afternoon workouts as well.
As CFG athletes, you need to realize the workouts that you do at CFG are far more advanced and intense than what the average gym goer does. So with that, please be conscious throughout the day of what you eat and how much water you are drinking. This will ensure great performances daily and benefit your progression as an athlete.
