We recommend three distinct approaches for beginning CrossFit depending on your fitness experience:
1) If you are largely familiar with the staple of CrossFit exercises then starting with the WOD (Workout of the Day) is a perfect place to start. If you've had exposure to Olympic weightlifting, powerlifting, and gymnastics this is the recommended approach to beginning CrossFit. Where our terminology or an exercise is unfamiliar you can immediately acquaint yourself with the movement by finding the video clip for the movement from our exercise and demos section of the site. This is often the best starting approach for individuals who have experience in a consistent strength and conditioning program - jump right in.
2) If some or many of the exercises are unfamiliar to you then we recommend that you follow the WOD and substitute other exercises for those where you have not yet developed the skills to perform them properly. Substitutions can be made for all exercises and levels of fitness.
3) If many or most of the exercises are relatively or completely unknown to you, then we recommend that you begin learning the movements with our certified trainers to learn how to perform our common exercises and provide substitutions during your development with CrossFit.
